Scope

The workshop is intended to bring together world-leading experts in electronic-structure theory and active Chinese researchers on first-principles computations to discuss timely open issues and challenging problems in this field. This will strengthen the research activities on methodology and algorithm development in China.

Recent years have seen a rapid growing of the first-principles community in China, but the research effort on basic electronic-structure methods and algorithms is still rather limited. The recently established Max Planck Partner Group at University of Science and Technology of China (supported by the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin) has the ambition to improve this situation. The Partner Group will be devoted to developing and implementing novel advanced electronic-structure methods and algorithms. This workshop is the first of a series of planned workshops, to be organized by the Partner Group once every two years. The workshop is instrumental for the Partner Group to keep in close contact with the international electronic-structure community. Moreover, the workshop is expected to be highly beneficial to the Chinese community of first-principles computations.
