Travel

Directions from Main Train Station (München Hauptbahnhof)

From the Hauptbahnhof, take an S-Bahn to Marienplatz (which will be the second stop on any eastbound line), then change to the U-Bahn line U6 heading northbound to the Garching-Forschungszentrum terminal stop. Not all trains on the U6 line will terminate at Garching-Forschungszentrum, especially later at night. If your train terminates before Garching-Forschungszentrum, exit the train and wait. Eventually a U6 train which terminates at Garching-Forschungszentrum should appear. Additionally, see also the Notes about Public Transportation below.

Notes About Public Transport

You can find more information about timetables, alternative routes, etc. for public transportation at:

Public transport in Munich works with a zone scheme. Please note that Garching Campus/Forschungszentrum is located outside of the inner-city zone. You will need to buy a "Munich XXL" ticket or take THREE stripes on a multiple ride ticket. Note also that the vending machines for tickets are wildly inconsistent from terminal stop to terminal stop. You may need to go to a different terminal stop to buy the ticket that you need.
