Excursion - Conference outing “Wattwanderung”, July 25th
There will be a conference outing on Thursday, July 25, 2013.
We will meet at 5:20 pm in front of the Thalassohotel to drive with a bus to the Wadden Sea.
We take a guided tour through the Wadden Sea, i.e. walk over the ocean bed at low tide. This involves crossing small water channels (“Priele”), as well as walking in deep mud. We recommend bringing the following gear for this (actually, quite fun) event:
- One pair of old socks and sneakers. This is, in fact, essential. Going barefoot you risk ugly cuts by sea shells, while loose shoes (rubber boots) will get stuck in the mud.
- A rain jacket and/or sweater. The tour will start in the late afternoon and it might get chilly.
- Shorts (at best of fast-drying material). Some passages might be slippery, so count on possibly getting wet. Don’t bring any valuables or stuff that shouldn’t get wet. If you want to bring technical equipment (camera, phone), wrap it into a plastic bag.
At 7:45 pm, after the tour, we will return with the bus to the Thalassohotel/accommodation to refresh/change clothes before hitting the conference dinner.
