By Car

On the Autobahn A115 (E51) Potsdam-Berlin take exit Hüttenweg. Follow Hüttenweg to the end (about 3km), passing straight two crossings with traffic lights (Königsallee/Onkel-Tom-Str. and Clayallee). At the end of Hüttenweg, turn right into Gelfert Straße, then take the second street to the right, Kehler Weg. At the next crossing (over the U-Bahn bridge), turn left into Brümmer Straße. The Harnack Haus is directly ahead. The FHI is on the next street to the right, Faradayweg.

By Air

from Flughafen Tegel: Take bus number 109 or X9 to Jakob-Kaiser-Platz (the first or second stop). From there take subway U7, direction Rudow. At Fehrbelliner Platz, change to U3 direction Krumme Lanke. Exit at Thielplatz. Travel takes about 40 min. Costs are Euro 2.60. You can pay the bus driver to get a ticket for the whole trip (ask for Berlin AB). A Taxi is somewhat faster, about 25 minutes outside rush hours. Costs are about 27 Euro.

from Flughafen Schönefeld: You need a "Berlin ABC" ticket for Euro 3.20. Take S-Bahn S45 (Gesundbrunnen). Change to subway U3 at Heidelberger Platz. Take U3 towards Krumme Lanke. Exit at Thielplatz. Travel takes about 45 to 60 min. If you arrive late at night, or if for any reason the S45 does not run, do as follows: Take S9 direction Grunewald to Treptower Park. Change to either S46 or S41 direction Gesundbrunnen (that is, get on the S-Bahn ring line in the clockwise direction). Note that some of the lines in the ring may have different final stations, depending on the time of day. Exit at Heidelberger Platz, switch to U3 direction Krumme Lanke, and finally exit at Thielplatz as above. Taxi from Schönefeld takes about 45 minutes outside rush hours. Costs are about 50 Euros.

By Train

from Main Station (Hauptbahnhof): You need a "Berlin AB" ticket for Euro 2.40. Take any S-Bahn going west in direction Zoologischer Garten (S5, S7, or S9). Take U-Bahn U9 direction Rathaus Steglitz. Change at Spichernstrasse. Take U3 direction Krumme Lanke. Exit at Thielplatz. Travel takes about 35 min. Taxi takes about 20 minutes outside rush hours. Costs are about 18 Euro.
